Roseate Spoonbill

These big, pink birds wade in shallow waters, searching all around.

Their spatula-shaped beak scoops food up, and off the ground.


You may wonder how they can breathe without lifting up their head,

Since birds don’t have gills, but breathe like us instead.


Their beak has two small breathing slits, almost at the top.

If water goes up to these openings, they lift their head and stop.​
