xenops: a small rain forest bird that eats insects and larvae, but stays in trees, hopping upside down under branches and never flies down to the ground.

example:  We found a little xenops on the ground, so we knew that he must have broken his leg because these birds never fly down to the ground. 

granting: allowing or letting.
